Anybody who knows me will know that I have a hankering to get some animation done. I'm a big stop motion and hand drawn nut (not that I don't also love the computer stuff too) and while I've got several stop motion projects in various states of progress, I'm trying to pull something 2d together that is managable and I can finish in a reasonable time while I ponder the best way forward with other things.
This week, after my bud (and amazing character artist and stop mo wizard) Ben Whitehouse gave me the heads up to buy some new software, namely Toon Boom Studio 8, I cracked it open within minutes and started doodling away. I caught the bug, to say the least. Ideas started forming, and bits of my brain started whirring into gear.
I came up with a sweet little idea for a 1 minute film called pup, about a dog who hears his owner pull into the driveway, and gets far too over excited.
I'll be documenting progress through this blog so keep an eye out for updates, in the meantime, take a look at some very rough animation, and a little colour chart I sketched out to get me started. Watch this space.
Just as a side note however, I'll actually be animated within Adobe Photoshop as I need a workflow that I'm comfortable with for the near future.
It feels great to be animating again.
